Having a fire alarm going off at the end of your shift is not the best way to end it. Thank the gods it was a false alarm, though.

A lousy take of the modern family unit.
I was asked, at work, if, of all things, I was a mother. I must confess, the question stunned me slightly, and I was unable to process and reply at first. In due time, I was able to utter that, no, I was not a mother, not in the traditional sense, as I did not have offspring of my own to care and look after. As the more queer perceptive of you already have noted, in this world with “your kids, my kids, our kids” that we all seemingly live in, I could have hinted at being part of a non-traditional family unit that did came with kids in one form or another. Regardless, that is not the case, as children is not a part of my current household. Nor are pets, for that matter. It is, however, of the number five (no mambo) in total, and we all get pretty well alongside one another. My next-door roommate even works the same sort of shift as I do, so folks were already in the know of how to adjust to that when I moved in, and it pleases me greatly.
Not that my household is the Imperial Household, the Royal Household, or even the Presidential Household, for that matter, but it is mine, my own, and I’m quite fond of it, thank you very much.

I Saw Daddy Kissing Santa Claus
I saw Daddy kissing Santa Claus
Underneath the mistletoe last night.
He didn't see me creep
down the stairs to have a peep;
He thought that I was tucked
up in my bedroom fast asleep.
Then, I saw Daddy tickle Santa Claus
Underneath his beard so snowy white;
Oh, what a laugh it would have been
If Sibling had only seen
Daddy kissing Santa Claus last night
Then I saw Daddy tickle Santa Claus
Underneath his beard so snowy white
Oh, what a laugh it would have been
If Sibling had only seen
Daddy kissing Santa Claus last night
Oh, what a laugh it would have been
If Sibling had only seen
Daddy kissing Santa Claus last night
Granted, Kip Addotta did another version of the original back in 1989, but it’s time to offer an update.

TTS
There is also the most perfect short clip starting around the five minute mark to point out how current state of affairs are… not quite working as intended.
Not to mention how the conversations are actually wise, detailed and refreshing in their depths and honesty, but the wholesomeness at the end makes one move on with a briefness of happiness and hope.
Enjoy if you're planning to watch / watching / have watched / will watch again!

Lockdown.
I was once told that every era – or historical period, if you prefer – happens to be one of two: reasoning, or emotion. This was either back in 2006 or 2007. The person explaining, quite reasonable, said that it was always swinging back and forth between the two, and that we currently were graduating towards emotion after being within reason for some time. What I recall was that I, at the time, was quite excited about this as I at the time, imagining an upcoming era of positivity and various ways of expressing joy.
Ah, that sweet summer child – neglecting (or perhaps not willing to subconsciously accept) negative emotions being part of this equation. As such, I have come to realize that if one would look back at this period of time, one emotion above others should be the defining one: Fear.
Fear.
Let that take a moment to sink in.
The past few years may have laid the foundations of it, but seldom has a specific moment – to my experience, at least – as these few past years. Oh, we’ve had our fair share coming up to this point:
- 9/11; fear of terror.
- Global warming; fear of planetary destruction and our own.
- Political; fear of the far right/left, depending on what side you favor.
And now, the biggest and current one:
- Covid; fear of infection, contamination, sickness and death.
Fear.
I find one quote to sum it up quite nicely:
“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.” H. P. Lovecraft.
What strikes me as morbidly funny is that nuclear destruction isn’t on my list. Perhaps it is on yours, but to me, that is something the generation prior to my own was more concerned with rather than the current day. However, taking that into the account, fear may have been seeping it’s insidious tentacles far slower than what I initially considered.
Fear.
How to combat it? For me, it is trying to stay positive and spread a little joy whenever you have the capacity to do so. After all, who can forget a bunch of crucified folk next to one another singing Always Look On the Bright Side of Life? As for being afraid of the unknown, the strange, what you do not understand? Educate yourself.
So, if I can make a request, dear reader, it is to try to make the best out of a bad situation. I know I’m trying, and despite not always succeeding, an attempt counts for something.
Even if Pandora may have opened the box, one thing still yet reside inside.
Hope.

Simple pleasures.
Fire is of the Wu, a topic of which I know next to nothing about. But if it did come down to picking one of the five Chinese elements, I'd favor Water, or maybe Metal. Those who know me might suggest that I'd be better off with Earth. Perhaps they are right.
Plant watered at zenith.
Winter, bulb closing, natural happening.
Always kept warm.
Always let it keep the light.
Access to the sunlight.
Change soil once a year, summer solstus.
Sick, losing it's glow.
